Whatever happened to Whamo?
What kind of a post idea is that? Don't know, but that is what is there. So let's go with it .
Whamo made Superballs, the first ones. Then shoop shoop hula hoops. I know there was more, but that is all that comes to mind at the moment. Bottom line, we all loved their stuff. How hard could you throw that ball down at the asphalt? How high could you get it to go. They were not cheap, so no one hit one with a bat, once we had seen it done. Gone. Beyond gone.
Where did Whamo go? Maybe I should Google it.
Then there was Popiel or is it there is Popiel. Interesting new products. Who did not need a Vegamatic?
Satisfaction. Mick said he could not get any. I believe him. We want satisfaction. Something to scratch that itch. We are born with that itch.
You know, I was never going to be the one whose itch was to hit the Superball with a bat and watch it disappear. I marvelled at those guys. They had a different itch that I would never understand. They had daring and abandon that I could not imagine or embrace. They strove greatly and dared greatly. They also seemed to win more.
They won because they showed up. The value persists.
Father, help me get the goody out of this. I know there is more.
